Good evening ladies and gentlemen! Tonight was a big night - my first date through IJL!!! I was set up with a guy - we'll call him "B" - who is 28, works in N. Canton, has an advanced degree, a dog, plays piano and guitar...and all sorts of other great stuff. Unfortunately, the so-called chemistry did not seem to be there...
It's so difficult because usually in dating there is a certain je ne sais quoi that is missing and you can just say "that didn't work" and move on. With IJL, I have to call and verbalize the je ne sais quoi. Ugh! This dating thing seems to get more and more exhausting and I've only been on one date! Thankfully, and honestly, the date went fine - no cuss words, no smelly feet comments, no rude behavior...it just wasn't there.
I will however point out the highlights of the restaurant we were at -
1) I pull up to the back of the parking lot and get flagged to the front - the gentleman at the door tells me to park near the entrance...it's safer. Um, where am I??? Why is it unsafe in the first place??? Or is he just being polite cuz I'm a lady? He did call me princess on my way in...excellent observation sir.
2) Average age of the other diners = 65+ ('nuff said)
3) All items on the menu are basically $25+ with mostly red meat only choices. I'm not a girl who's against steak...but as many of you know, I like to "ruin" it with tons of ketchup...oh yes, that's right! I said ketchup. Due to public ridicule, I thought it best to avoid the steak and ketchup fiasco on a first date...friends and family will forgive my bad taste...I'm not sure about a stranger :)
4) My meal came with a salad...but this tiny bowl of lettuce comes out and then a "salad extravaganza" of toppings comes to the table. The extravaganza is a tower of toppings that I am to put on my mini-bowl of lettuce and it looks ridiculous between me and my date. Hey I like croutons as much as any gal...but what is this do it yourself BS?
Again "B" was totally fine - just didn't light my fire (nor do I think I lit his). We ended the date with a hug and a "nice to meet you, thanks for a good time".
IJL first date...je ne sais quoi - but the salad extravaganza was something to write home about.
